Emergency Medical Services

Emergency Medical Services is dedicated to increasing survival and reducing pain and disability from out-of-hospital emergencies. Emergency medical services make up the largest number of our 911-responses. Shoreline Fire Department provides two levels of medical care: Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support. Firefighter/EMT’s (Emergency Medical Technicians) and Firefighter/Paramedics provide a total team approach and provide distinct yet complimentary care.

King County Medic One Program

Shoreline Fire Department is proud to belong to the King County Medic One Program. Shoreline has participated in this paramedic program since 1977, just seven years after one of the first programs in the nation was started by two doctors in Seattle. Shoreline initially selected six individuals to start the pilot program in our district. Today we employ many more full-time Firefighter/Paramedics who provide professional 24-hour advanced life support services in our community. The King County Medic One Program maintains one of the highest survival rates from sudden death (cardiac arrest) in the world.

Shoreline Medic One staffs three full-time medic units serving Shoreline, Lake Forest Park, Kenmore, Woodway and Bothell. As part of the program, all Shoreline Fire Department paramedics are trained through the University of Washington School of Medicine at Harborview Medical Center. In addition to the 10-month intensive training program and comprehensive testing, paramedics must continually maintain their skills to remain certified and must re-certify every two years.
