The Shoreline Fire Department has partnered with the Cities of Kenmore, Lake Forest Park, and the Northshore Utility District to create the Northshore Emergency Management Coalition (NEMCo).
NEMCo was created in an effort to maximize each of the participating agencies’ emergency preparedness efforts and resources to efficiently serve our community.
NEMCo’s focus is to engage the “whole community” to prevent, protect against, mitigate, respond to, and recover from all types of emergencies and disasters through education, and volunteer coordination. NEMCo provides a number of emergency preparedness training opportunities throughout the year for those interested in volunteering, or for those who just want to be better prepared at home.

CERT Training
NEMCo provides at least two Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Academies each year. CERT training is designed to provide interested citizens training in basic disaster response skills with the intent of organizing a group of volunteers that are capable of supplementing existing emergency responders in the event of a major disaster.
Emergency Preparedness Workshops & Seminars
In addition to CERT training, NEMCo also provides a number of shorter emergency preparedness seminars and workshops throughout the year. These workshops are designed to improve the readiness of the average citizen by providing tips on emergency preparedness kits, water, food/cooking, and radio communications. Opportunities to receive hands-on training using fire extinguishers, shutting off utilities, and safe generator operation is also part of the program.
