We Fight Wildfires
The Shoreline Fire Department assists local, state, and regional requests for support of wildland fire incidents with its Wildland Team. The team consists of roughly 30 Shoreline Firefighters that have received additional training in fighting wildland fires and fill a multitude of roles on these incidents.
The Shoreline Fire Department supports these incidents with fire engines, brush trucks, medic units/ambulances, as well as personnel for incident management, suppression, support operations, and emergency medical services.
Firefighters are deployed with sometimes only a few hours’ notice and spend anywhere from days to weeks on incidents. All associated costs with deploying the apparatus and personnel resources are reimbursed to the Shoreline Fire Department per incident, including coverage for the employees that are deployed.
The team has averaged approximately 3000 hours deployed on wildland incidents each season. The experience gained each year on these deployments has been invaluable and has also aided the Shoreline Fire Department at home with increased knowledge and experience in suppression techniques and resources, incident management, and safety.
