The Shoreline Fire Department is surrounded by several bodies of water, and we realized we needed to upgrade our responses to water related emergencies.
This includes 5 miles of shoreline along the Puget Sound, Lake Washington, Lake Ballinger and several small lakes. Each year we have suppression staff who attend Surface Water Rescue classes. Each team member has their own rescue gear including a wetsuit, masks, fins, goggles, and more. Additional equipment include, jet skis, rescue surf boards, Peterson tubes, and high-powered dive lights. We also attend annual training with our neighboring departments and have annual timed swim tests. We continue to train and stay current on our skill set in preparation for any and all situations.
